I was asked recently about the possible differences in energy of the Sunstone from Oregon vs Sunstone from other locations, like India. I wanted to take some time to address the similarities and the differences.

Sunstone (India)

Sunstone from India

Let’s note what Sunstone actually is. According to Mindat.org, Sunstone is “A variety of feldspar that has schiller just as Labradorite does, but with an orange/brown background color. It contains small Hematite crystals that give it an additional sparkle. Also called Aventurine Feldspar.”

This type of Sunstone (see pic to left) is quite common and is found in such places as Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, India, Norway and Russia.

Sunstone, Oregon

Oregon Sunstone is unique to just one location. It contains inclusions of Copper (not hematite) crystals. It also causes the “Schiller” effect but oftentimes not as flashy as the Sunstone containing Hematite. The largest source of natural Oregon Sunstones is the Ponderosa Mine, located in the high desert of eastern Oregon.

The Ponderosa Mine produces the highest quality and greatest volume of Oregon sunstone available anywhere, though sunstone can also be found in Lake County at the base of the Hart Mountains.

For me, Oregon Sunstone has more of a gemmy quality. It is a softer, gentler energy. The Oregon Sunstone feels more harmonious and works as a partner with the holder/user to facilitate a smooth energy flow.

Energetically, for me….

The Sunstone with Hematite inclusions focuses more on the physical, grounding, lower chakra energies. It makes me literally jump for joy.

Both Sunstone carry the energy of joy but, for me, the Oregon Sunstone carries this energy from a higher vibration.

My energetic connection presents the following image. Two men, both living in a human form. One man was all about looking for happiness in what he could acquire. He found joy in physical pleasures and materialistic gain. He worked hard to acquire more of the things that brought him joy. And he was happy living his life in this way.

The other man, was looking for joy and happiness too, but chose to visit temples and be present at spiritual talks. He meditated regularly, practiced yoga, fed his mind, body and soul and treated everyone with love and compassion. His joy was being in touch with Divine Source.

Which one is which? You decide 🙂

To me, the energies of Sunstone from Oregon vs Sunstone are like that. Neither is superior to the other, simply different in vibration and energy. One more grounded in the physical, the other offering a higher, spiritual vibration yet still providing a sense of grounding while in that space.

with love and crystal blessings,
